NYCC 2013 Recap
Lately my weekends have been pretty typical – hang out with friends and family, watch movies, play some games, watch a lot of football. However, this past weekend was incredibly unexpected since I flew 3000 miles to spend a day at New York Comic Con! Even though I hadn’t planned on going, I took an unexpected last minute trip to New York and suddenly realized I would be there the same weekend as the con! With some last minute luck, I was somehow able to scramble for a ticket, packed my cosplay, and hoped for great New York weather. Since I only had time to go to the con on Saturday, I spent my entire day on the floor, seeing some old friends, getting a taste of New York cosplay, and meeting some great people. I actually hadn’t been to NYCC since 2008 and OMG, I was seriously blown away by how large it had become. I would say it’s pretty comparable to the size of SDCC minus all the downtown activities and maybe a little less crazy in terms of lines. To New York Comic Con I will say, “Impressive, most impressive.”
I decided to make a small update to my Vader cosplay by adding a half mask (sorry folks who want to see the whole helmet, but I’m not up for spending hours trapped in a helmet). Even though I had thought of the idea for SDCC, it just seemed like another uncomfortable thing to wear and I decided to forgo the mask. However, with colder NY weather and the fact that I was only going for one day, I decided to give it a shot. Wearing the mask was not as bad as I thought, but I have to admit it did make me feel a bit robotic, or perhaps half woman, half machine? Anyhow, on with the pics!
Of course, I had to take pics with fellow Star Wars fans. Welcome to the dark side.
As someone pointed out, I’m about to need to replace my robotic hand!
Hottie Ewok! And looking cool in those shades.
Bust a move with rapper Vader.
And on the flip side, homeless Vader.
What’s a con without some famous cosplayers? Vampy Bit Me (Linda Le) was Lady Nightwing.
And Monika Lee was Elizabeth from Bioshock. People, use the focus, please!!
I saw some other tight cosplays as well. I don’t think anyone could have missed Doc Ock.
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of seeing female Gambit.
Gorgeous group of patriotic ladies.
Love this retro pin-up Spock! She’s so adorable!
I only saw a few celebs, but they were cool ones – John DiMaggio (Jake the Dog)
It’s Cookie Monster!! aka David Rudman
One of my favorite parts of cons – seeing lots of cool art. This was a Walking Dead exhibit next to the convention center featuring a lot of comic book art and props from the set.
By far one of the best games I have EVER played – Walking Dead by Telltale Games.
Love this 80s inspired Leia art by Craig Drake
Even though I was only there for one day, I still had a great time. Hopefully this time I won’t wait as long to go back. Till next time New York!
