Star Wars Christmas
I don’t know what it is about the holidays, but I’m always in the mood to make things during this time. Sure, I work on cosplay throughout a lot of the year, but once Halloween is over, I tend to take a long break from costume making and focus on other crafts, whether they are Haunted Mansion inspired wreaths or Gingerbread AT-ATs. Today’s project came about after realizing I had too many clothes and too many black pullovers. I suddenly had the idea to turn my plain black sweatshirt into something more geeky and festive for the holidays and thus the Stormtrooper Christmas sweater was born!
Here are the materials you will need to get started:
- Plain black pullover/sweatshirt – like this one here
- White and black felt
- Glue gun
Optional Items:
- Gold studs (optional) – buy here
- Santa hat made from a small stocking
1. Start by printing out a photo of your stencil. I used this one since it had simple lines and wasn’t going to be too difficult to cut out.
2. Use the stencil to cut out your piece of white felt. I cut out most of the shape with the white felt and then used black felt for some of the details on top.
3. You can either glue everything down if you don’t want to sew or you can do what I did, which was partially glue down the black details to the Stormtrooper face and then pin/top stitch everything down afterwards.
Once everything is secured to the sweatshirt, you can either stop there or add more details!
Stud details:
I decided to add some stud details sort of in a “necklace” shape. I started from the center and then built around that, creating a “V” shape down the front center.
Christmas details:
I took a smaller Christmas stocking and cut it approximately in half, eying the shape of the hat I wanted. Since I didn’t want this to be a permanent Christmas sweater, I safety pinned the hat on the sweatshirt so that I would be able to wear it more on a regular basis.
Easy enough, right? The whole thing took me about 2 hours (or the length of the time to watch bonus material on my Star Wars DVD). Hopefully this will get you inspired to make your own holiday sweater. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
