The Bomb: DIY Star Wars Bomber Jacket
If you’re a clothing addict and avid shopper like myself, then you’ve probably noticed some new trends popping up for spring/summer. For me, I’ve been seeing a ton of off-the-shoulder tops and dresses, midi culottes and skirts, the continuing trend of crop tops, and last but not least, the bomber jacket. I know that trends come and go, but sometimes there’s certain ones that really catch my eye.
There’s nothing new about the bomber jacket considering it’s actually a historical piece of clothing, but the fact that it’s lasted it’s time definitely made it even more appealing to me. Seeing so many cool bomber jackets online definitely gave me a case of FOMO and I found myself on this quest to find the perfect bomber jacket that I could wear for seasons to come. I tried on so many and found that my favorites were the ones I saw on Zara.com. They had printed ones, embroidered ones, oversized ones, and my favorite, ones with patches! I even loved that they threw in some funky comic book-ish patches, but decided in the end that even though the patches were cool, I didn’t really LOVE them. But then I had an idea – what if I bought my own patches to put on a bomber jacket?? And so became my next project – the Star Wars Bomber Jacket!
After much more hunting, I settled on this jacket to use as a base. I didn’t want anything super thin and I went up a couple sizes so that it was a more roomy jacket. I went on a month-long hunt for various vintage Star Wars patches on eBay and got to sewing!
Here’s an initial layout of some of the patches. I still have more things I want to include (some pins and other fun things), but for now, I’m super pleased with it turned out! There’s no trick to how I attached the patches – I just used my sewing machine and sewed them directly on to the jacket.
Of course, I couldn’t resist wearing this with the brand new Rogue One shirt recently released at Disney Parks! SO EXCITED!!!

I just had a similar experience! I saw these awesome punk/geek jackets with a ton of cool stuff at a con…but none of them were exactly right, so I decided to make my own! Of course I ordered most of my pins on the cheap from overseas so it’ll be a while before they get here..
LOVE your site BTW! You have some amazing stuff!
