Celebrating Carrie
I’m sure you’re all with me when I say it’s been a sad past couple of days. Losing not only Carrie Fisher, but also Debbie Reynolds in the span of two days was shocking and heartbreaking. I grew up watching tons of musicals and Debbie Reynolds made such an impression on me in Singing in the Rain. Her voice still sounds so velvety and sweet when I listen to it. I always thought that the scandal surrounding her and Eddie Fisher was infuriating, but if anything good came out of that relationship, it was Carrie Fisher. She played the ultimate bad ass “damsel in distress” that didn’t take crap from anyone, and in reality, she was equally just as bad ass. I always admired how honest and real she was with her struggles and at the same time, she never took herself too seriously. Obviously I love her in the Star Wars universe, but I also remember her fondly as the sidekick in When Harry Met Sally, a movie I watch almost every New Years Eve. NYE is just around the corner and as I was putting together an outfit specifically for the occasion, I looked at my Princess Leia necklace and immediately felt a sort of sadness while holding it. But then I remembered how much joy she brought me in my life and if it wasn’t for her, we wouldn’t have this amazing Star Wars universe! We all lost two amazing people this week, but no matter how sad we are, let’s take this time to also celebrate their lives and remember how much joy they brought us. :)
