Casual Friday at Wondercon 2018
If there’s one con that’s always been one of my favorites, it’s Wondercon. I not only love the mix of people, but I love the location (yay Disneyland!) and the fact that it’s big enough to bring the big companies, but small enough where lines are totally not at the SDCC level. As for cosplay, I only had one costume in mind for Wondercon and that was this version of punk Chun-Li that Babs Tarr drew a few years back. I knew the minute I saw it that I would one day make this costume and I guess the inspiration suddenly came to me to finally make it (more on that later)!
Also, instead of making 3 new costumes for the 3 days, I decided to go with a mix of new and old. I was actually just talking to my friend Honeyboba about this and found it interesting how cosplayers will sometimes spend up to one year making a costume, only to wear it once. I mean, I’ve done it plenty of times, and it’s personally kind of upsetting how this happens! There’s definitely pressure to only to wear “new” costumes and not rewear old ones, but this time, I said “screw it” and decided to make use of a couple of old costumes. And so, I dusted off some bins and dug up my classic Han Solo costume for Sunday and my Batgirl of Burnside jacket for a cute, but “casual Friday” outfit. There’s lots of cosplay pics to come, but for now, here are some pics I took with my friend Ryan Chua! He’s an amazing fashion blogger and I’m so grateful that we got to shoot!
